Serra: PSDB suffers from "Bovarism" due to PT

In a speech to 60 people in São Paulo, the former governor, who is still trying to regain ground in the party for the 2014 elections, says that PSDB is like Madame Bovary, from Gustave Flaubert's novel, in relation to the PT: "it goes crazy, breaks up the family, betrays the husband with God and the world to be accepted."

247 - In a speech to 60 people in São Paulo, former governor José Serra harshly criticized the PSDB party. Still resentful of his lack of influence within the party, he said his party suffers from "Bovarism" in relation to the PT, in reference to the novel "Madame Bovary" by Gustave Flaubert.

"I apologize to the women, because it's more complex than that, but Madame Bovary wanted to be accepted by the other. She goes mad, breaks up her family, betrays her husband with God and the world to be accepted. And the PSDB has a bit of Bovaryism, of needing to be accepted by the PT," she said.

Serra also directed criticism at Senator Aécio Neves (MG), who is the party's preferred candidate to run for President in 2014.

"The PT [Workers' Party] conducts a poorly executed auction like the one for the Libra oil field. And what does the PSDB [Brazilian Social Democracy Party] do? They go around saying: 'Look, they [PT members] were always against privatization and now they're doing it.' Does that win votes? None," said Serra.
