247 - Transpetro's president, Sérgio Machado, submitted his resignation letter on the afternoon of Thursday, May 5th, according to Folha de S. Paulo. The letter was addressed to Graça Foster, who is the president of Transpetro's board.
The resignation of the head of the oil company's transportation subsidiary comes a day after the resignation of Graça Foster herself and five other directors of the state-owned company. According to Folha, Sérgio Machado had requested his resignation on Tuesday, but with the new developments, decided to postpone it.
He was cited by former Petrobras Supply Director Paulo Roberto Costa as being one of the beneficiaries of the embezzlement scheme investigated by Operation Lava Jato, of the Federal Police.
He had requested a leave of absence from his position in early November of last year following pressure from Petrobras' audit firm, PwC. In January, he requested an extension of his leave. The official was appointed by the president of the Senate, Renan Calheiros (PMDB-AL).
