Sputnik Brazil - Senator Rogério Marinho (PL) has introduced a bill to require that nominations of Brazilians for the positions of president and director in international financial institutions undergo evaluation by the Senate.

If approved, the proposal would make it more difficult for former President Dilma Rousseff to be appointed to the New Development Bank (NDB), the BRICS bank.

"It is necessary for the Senate to analyze the broad spectrum of aptitudes for the position, especially since it is also the House [Senate] responsible for authorizing external operations of a financial nature," said Marinho this Saturday (25).

Brazil has already received the green light from the other BRICS member countries for the nomination of Dilma Rousseff.

The intention is for Dilma to be the head of the bank when President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva visits China in March. Upon assuming leadership of the bloc, the former president will reside in Shanghai.

The BRICS Bank was founded precisely during Dilma's second term (2014-2016) and includes the five member countries of the bloc: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

On July 15, 2014, during the 6th BRICS summit held in Fortaleza (CE), the presidents of the member states of the bloc signed an agreement formalizing the creation of the bank, whose main objective is the financing of infrastructure and development projects in poor and emerging countries.
