Brasilia - The Senate plenary approved this afternoon (27) the requests for urgency for the bill dealing with free student passes and for the Proposed Amendment to the Constitution (PEC) of the Clean Record in the Public Service. With this, the matters will have priority on the voting agenda and should be voted on next week, along with the bill that provides for 75% of oil royalties for education and 25% for health.

The student free pass bill was presented this week by the president of the Senate, Renan Calheiros (PMDB-AL). It grants free public transportation passes to all students regularly enrolled in schools and universities. To be eligible for the benefit, they will need to prove their attendance in classes.

The expenses for providing free transportation to students will be covered by royalties from pre-salt oil reserves.

With the approval of the project that allocates 75% of these resources to education, Renan Calheiros stipulates in the bill that a portion be allocated to paying for transportation.

Just like the free public transportation bill, the Clean Slate Amendment for Public Service is also one of the demands presented in the demonstrations of the last two weeks throughout the country. It extends to all public servants the same rules of the Clean Slate Law that currently apply to candidates for elected office.

With the urgency approved, next week the Senate will define a new agenda of constitutional amendments and bills that should be prioritized for voting in the Senate plenary. All proposals should be defined according to the demands presented by protesters across the country.
