Without arresting Jefferson, Barbosa brings forward his vacation.
The excuse of lack of time, which Joaquim Barbosa used with journalists when asked why most of those convicted in Criminal Action 470 had been imprisoned while Roberto Jefferson, who confessed to receiving R$ 4 million for the PTB's undeclared campaign contributions, had not, makes less and less sense; on the last day of the year, the president of the Supreme Court used his time to join a samba party in Rio; yesterday, he had time to order the arrest of PT congressman João Paulo Cunha; today, he brought forward his vacation, which was only supposed to begin next Friday the 10th; in practice, Joaquim Barbosa is mocking the Justice system.
247 - In mid-December, the president of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), Joaquim Barbosa, he explained to journalists The reason why most of those convicted in Criminal Action 470 – some still entitled to appeals – are imprisoned, while the whistleblower in the so-called 'mensalão' scandal, Roberto Jefferson – who has no right to appeal – remains imprisoned, was "an absolute lack of time."
"In the coming days, I should release some decisions that were pending due to an absolute lack of time," the minister replied during a press conference in which he reviewed the Judiciary's work in 2013. However, the statement has made no sense. On the last day of 2013, Barbosa used his precious time to enjoy samba at the Clube Renascença in Andaraí, Rio de Janeiro (see...). here).
This Monday, the 6th, he ordered the arrest Federal deputy João Paulo Cunha, from the PT party, has announced his upcoming vacation. And this Tuesday, he brought forward his vacation, which was scheduled to begin next Friday, the 10th. In practice, Joaquim Barbosa is mocking the Justice system. Brasilia – The president of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), Joaquim Barbosa, went on vacation today (7), after ordering the arrest of federal deputy João Paulo Cunha (PT-SP). Initially, Barbosa was scheduled to go on vacation on Friday (10), but the date was brought forward.
Since the Supreme Court is in recess until the beginning of February, the presidency of the Court will be exercised on an interim basis by Minister Cármen Lúcia until January 19th. After that date, Ricardo Lewandowski, vice-president of the STF, will assume the duty shift at the STF.
According to João Paulo Cunha's press office, he is in Brasília awaiting notification of his arrest. Yesterday, Joaquim Barbosa denied the appeals presented by Cunha's defense and closed Criminal Action 470, the mensalão (monthly allowance) case, for João Paulo. He will serve a sentence of six years and four months in prison under a semi-open regime for the crimes of corruption and embezzlement.
