247 - State Secretaries of Education released a statement on Tuesday (4) against the suspension of the implementation of the new high school curriculum and the reform of the ENEM. According to the statement from the National Council of State Secretaries of Education, "the new ENEM was established after a long debate in a working group, suspending the schedule brings a risk of delay that, ultimately, could even make the new ENEM unfeasible next year".

According to FSPThe secretaries argued that "any decision related to the topic" should only be made after the conclusion of the public consultation opened by the Ministry of Education. The discussion should be concluded within 90 days, but the deadline may be extended.

In March, students from various cities across the country took to the streets to protest against the High School Reform, which was Law No. 13.415/2017, approved during the Michel Temer (MDB) administration.

The project

In the proposal, the National Common Core Curriculum (BNCC) occupies 60% of the teaching hours, equivalent to 1.800 hours divided between the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd years of high school. The other 40% represent the Learning Pathways, in which the student chooses their favorite area of knowledge.

The content is not divided by subject, but rather by four areas of knowledge, as is done in the ENEM exam: Languages and their Technologies (Portuguese Language, English, Arts, and Physical Education); Mathematics and its Technologies (Mathematics); Natural Sciences and their Technologies (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics); and Human and Social Sciences (History, Geography, Sociology, and Philosophy).

Students are required to study all areas of knowledge in high school, but in some years they may not study all of them. Only Mathematics and Portuguese Language remain mandatory.
