247 - Through a statement released this Saturday (6), the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass) repudiated the statement of Carlos Wizard, the new Secretary of Science, Technology and Strategic Inputs. and criticized the Jair Bolsonaro government's plan to manipulate data on Covid-19.

Wizard stated that the data on deaths caused by Covid-19 and the numbers related to contagion are "fanciful or manipulated".

“By stating that Health Secretaries falsify data on deaths resulting from Covid-19 in search of more 'budget,' the secretary, in addition to revealing his profound ignorance on the subject, insults the memory of all those defenseless victims of this terrible pandemic and their families. We and Brazilian society will not forget them (the dead) nor the tragedy that has befallen the nation. He offends secretaries, doctors, and all health professionals who have dedicated themselves tirelessly to saving lives. Wizard underestimates the intelligence of all Brazilians, who, in a moment of so much suffering and pain, see their deceased loved ones treated as 'merchandise.' His crude, fallacious statement, devoid of any ethical sense, humanity, and respect, deserves our profound contempt, repudiation, and disgust. We are not merchants of death,” the statement reads.
