247 - President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva sanctioned this Thursday (11) law nº 15.202, which creates the Brazilian National Teacher Card (CNDB). The document is aimed at teachers of basic and higher education, both from public and private networks, and will be valid throughout the national territory.

The CNDB is part of the “More Teachers for Brazil” program, which seeks to promote the appreciation and recognition of education professionals. According to the Ministry of Education (MEC), the card can be issued in digital or physical version and will provide access to benefits such as discounts on cultural events and accommodations, as well as facilitating the use of work tools.

Valuing education

During the signing ceremony, Lula highlighted the strategic importance of the measure. "Education must definitely be the most important thing a head of state needs to dedicate to his people. Because it is through education that we will create the profile, the face, and the sovereignty of this nation," the president stated.

The Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, emphasized that the initiative represents a milestone in the recognition of the teaching profession. “We all go through teachers, all professions go through teachers, so it’s important to recognize their role. The card, in addition to professional identification, will enable access to benefits and programs,” he stated.

Structure and issuance of the document

The CNDB (National Database of Basic Education) will be issued by the Ministry of Education (MEC), in partnership with the Executive Secretariat, the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes), and the National Institute for Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep). States, municipalities, and the Federal District will provide the necessary data for updating the information database.

The document will include information such as name, CPF (Brazilian tax identification number), parentage, address, date of birth, and professional information, including the educational institution. It will also include a 3x4 photo of the holder.

The scope of the measure

According to the School Census, Brazil currently has 2,35 million teachers in basic education and another 310 teachers in higher education, according to the 2023 Higher Education Census. All these professionals will be able to apply for the card, which will serve as an official identification for the category.
