Rodrigo Maia says that pressure against social isolation is an 'almost criminal' act.

The Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Rodrigo Maia, said that "saving lives will always come first," once again contrasting with Jair Bolsonaro, who went to the Supreme Court accompanied by business leaders to lobby against social isolation measures, which the WHO and the overwhelming majority of Brazilian experts, including those from the Ministry of Health, consider essential in the fight against the coronavirus.

247 - The Speaker of the House, Rodrigo Maia, said this Thursday (7), in an interview with GloboNews, that he understands the concern about resuming economic activities, but that pressure with this objective at this moment is an act "almost criminal".

On Thursday morning, Jair Bolsonaro took a group of business leaders to the Supreme Federal Court (STF) to pressure Minister Dias Toffoli, the Court's president, to end social isolation measures, arguing that it was necessary to restart the economy.

Maia believes that easing social isolation measures should not be adopted due to economic problems, but based on technical decisions, and that this pressure will lead to an increase in the number of deaths in Brazil, according to reports. G1.
