247 "This is a judge who is out of control." This was the definition given by Australian lawyer Geoffrey Robertson, one of the world's leading experts on human rights, regarding Judge Sérgio Moro of Operation Lava Jato.
In an interview with the Justificando portal, Robertson, who defends former president Lula at the Inter-American Court of Human Rights of the UN, cites several illegalities already committed by Moro, such as the recording of the conversation between Lula and Dilma Rousseff and, in an "absolutely illegal" manner, its disclosure to the press, in addition to wiretapping Lula's lawyers.
"This is illegal, this is a judge who is out of control. Furthermore, everyone deserves an impartial and fair trial. Moro and all the prosecutors of Operation Lava Jato have been accusing Lula of being guilty for a year; they are not being impartial," he states. According to him, Moro is too involved in the investigative process.
"I came to Brazil and couldn't believe that this judge is on the front pages of newspapers, looking like Eliot Ness, the great bastion of corruption. He presents himself as a great enemy of Lula," he adds. Robertson highlights the necessary distinction between an investigating judge and a judge who judges the case, as happens in several countries around the world, and recalls that, unlike that, Moro investigates and judges.
