Who is the Army commander-in-chief who wants to keep politics out of the barracks?

The commander passed the anniversary of the military coup, which turned 59 last Friday, without any recorded expressions of praise for the dictatorship period.

247 - The Army's commander-in-chief, General Tomás Miguel Miné Ribeiro Paiva, 62, stated in an interview given to the newspaper... The Globe which aims to separate politics from the Army.

"My goal is to remove politics from the Army. We are professionals and we need to focus on our work," said the Army commander. 

The report also highlights the commander's career trajectory: “General Tomás reached the top of his career 13 days after the invasions of the headquarters of the Three Powers, which occurred on January 8th with the approval of military personnel investigated for failing to contain the coup attempts. He was chosen by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to depoliticize the troops and establish a harmonious relationship between the Presidential Palace and the Armed Forces he commands. Since he took office on the 21st of that month, there have been no reports of new crises.”
