Nearly 100% of workers received a real wage increase in 2010.

Last year, the unions showed their strength in the negotiations, thanks to full employment.

Almost all workers in the country experienced real wage increases in 2010, an unprecedented situation reflecting the positive economic climate last year. Specifically, 93,8% of minimum wages for various professional categories saw adjustments exceeding the inflation rate for the period. In 2009, this percentage reached only 92,9%. This information was released by the Wage Monitoring System (SAS) of the Inter-Union Department of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies (Dieese). The organization also reported that of the 660 collective bargaining agreements or conventions, 619 resulted in real gains. The reasons for these gains are the full employment scenario recorded in the economy in 2010 and the consequent strengthening of unions in negotiations. These figures do not reflect wage increases obtained individually by workers, which typically occur when they receive a wage offer that is matched by their current employers.
