Gang convicted of drug trafficking at street festivals.
In total, 21 people were convicted for association with the trafficking of ecstasy and other drugs at a party held in Ribeirão Preto, SP; the superintendent of the Federal Police, Roberto Filho, visited the city and spoke about the corporation's actions.
The 4th Criminal Court of São José do Rio Preto, in the interior of São Paulo state, sentenced 21 people for association with the trafficking of poppers and ecstasy at a street festival held in the city. The information was released yesterday by the São Paulo Public Prosecutor's Office.
The investigations that led to the group's conviction were carried out in 2003 by the Civil Police with the support of the Special Action Group to Combat Organized Crime (GAECO). The sentence condemned all defendants to prison terms ranging from 3 to 4 years.
The gang's activities were uncovered after an investigation dismantled the group led by Israel Domingues de Oliveira and his son, Israel Dias de Oliveira, both convicted of drug trafficking and association with drug trafficking.
It was also discovered that the criminal group operated in European countries and Peru. Investigations revealed that the gang recruited people to transport the drugs, providing passports and paying for the trips.
Some of the convicts swallowed capsules containing narcotics in order to transport cocaine and ecstasy. The gang also hid the drugs in surfboards. Young people with high purchasing power were part of the criminal group.
The Superintendent of the Federal Police of the State of São Paulo, Roberto Ciciliati Troncon Filho, visited Ribeirão Preto this Thursday, the 25th, and spoke about the investments and results of work achieved by the Federal Police throughout the State in combating organized crime and drug and arms trafficking.
