The decree reserving 30% of internship positions in direct, autonomous and foundational federal public administration for black students is published in today's edition (29) of Official Gazette of the Union (DO)The measure seeks to strengthen the inclusion of young black people in the labor market and was signed yesterday (28) by President Michel Temer, in a ceremony at the Planalto Palace.

According to the text, those who self-declare as Black or mixed-race at the time of registration for the internship selection process, according to the color or race category used by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), may compete for the positions reserved for Black candidates.

The idea is that mixed-economy companies controlled by the Union should also adopt the measure. Yesterday, at a ceremony in the Planalto Palace, directors of Banco do Brasil, Caixa Econômica, Petrobras, and Banco do Nordeste signed a commitment agreement for the reservation of positions.

At the event, the National Secretary for Policies to Promote Racial Equality, Juvenal Araújo, said that the decree is an incentive for young black people to begin their professional lives and also contributes to reducing racial inequality. "This action, which is also affirmative action, represents much more than a first job opportunity; it represents the construction of a democracy with social justice," he said.
