PSOL demands investigation of congressman and Bolsonaro for alleged assault against Michelle.

In an interview on the podcast “Arretado”, Congressman Julian Lemos, a former ally of Bolsonaro, accuses the president of hitting the first lady and says the marriage was a “facade”.

Current Brazil Network - PSOL demanded on Tuesday (8) an investigation into allegations that President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) had committed physical aggression, on at least two occasions, against First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro. The accusations were made by federal deputy Julian Lemos (UB-PB), during an interview on the Arretado podcast, on Monday (7).

After an hour and 50 minutes of programming, the congressman, a former Bolsonaro ally, claimed that Michelle had been assaulted in January 2020, after undergoing cosmetic surgery to replace her implants. Lemos added: "The relationship is a sham. She doesn't even want to see him. On his first vacation, when he went to an island, she went to get implants, and he slapped her," he reported.

The congressman also stated that Michelle did not attend Bolsonaro's first speech after his defeat to President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Workers' Party) because she was "scarred" from another alleged assault. "She wasn't there because she was scarred. Tell her to show up," Lemos accused.

Who is Julian Lemos?

Following the repercussions of the interview, the PSOL party emphasized on its social media that the allegations "need to be investigated and examined seriously." "Domestic violence is a serious matter and affects thousands of women daily in the country," the party highlighted.

Julian Lemos was once Bolsonaro's campaign coordinator in the 2018 elections. However, the two broke ties in early 2019 after exchanging barbs with the president's second son, councilman Carlos Bolsonaro (Republicanos-RJ). A year later, the former ally began confronting Bolsonaro himself about corruption allegations in his government, also targeting congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), his third son.

Lemos, however, has also been accused of violence against women by his ex-wife, Ravena Coura, and one of his sisters, Kamila Lemos, between 2013 and 2016. Both Ravena and Kamila eventually dropped the charges, leading to the cases being dismissed by the courts, according to a report by UOL.

History of aggression

Congresswoman Vivi Reis (Psol-PA) observed, however, that the reported case is "extremely serious." "No one is above the law. Therefore, the president, with a history of violence against women, and the congressman, who was complicit and negligent, must be investigated and held accountable for their crimes," she commented.

During the interview with Arretado, the former Bolsonaro ally also made a series of accusations against Carlos Bolsonaro:

“Carlos is a sociopath, capable of killing his father, killing his mother, I say this with complete certainty. Schizophrenic, cruel. I don't know if he knows what a prayer is, because he is evil with a capital 'E'. He was in the middle of all the problems involving his father,” Lemos exclaimed.

The Bolsonaro family has not yet commented on the allegations.

The president's second son has also been linked to an accusation of violence against women. Journalist Ricardo Noblat, from the Metrópoles website, reported that the city councilman slapped Michelle after his father's defeat in the second round. President Bolsonaro allegedly witnessed the aggression but sided with his son. The second accusation of aggression occurred the day after the election, after the first lady and the president unfollowed each other on Instagram. The feud between Michelle and Carlos, however, reportedly dates back to the 2018 elections. But it is said to have deepened a year and a half ago, when the first lady began criticizing her husband's social media accounts, which are managed by their son.

At the time, however, Michelle made a post denying any disagreements with Jair Bolsonaro. "My husband and I remain firm, united, and believing in God and believing in what is best for Brazil," she wrote.
