247 - Minister Augusto Nardes, of the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU), filed for medical leave starting this Monday (21), one day after the disclosure of statements of a coup-like nature made by him in a WhatsApp group of agribusiness entrepreneurs and obtained by Brazil 247. The official reasons for the leave of absence and its duration have not been disclosed, according to the... UOL.

Earlier, Augusto Nardes released a statement in which he did not deny authorship of the declarations and said he regretted the "interpretation" given to his message. In the message to rural landowners, Nardes states that "a very strong movement is taking place in the barracks" and that it is a matter of "hours, days at most, a week, two, perhaps less than that" for a "quite strong outcome in the nation, [with] unpredictable consequences."

Members of Parliament and party leaders reacted on Monday against Augusto Nardes's coup-mongering statement. Senator Randolfe Rodrigues (Rede-AP) announced that he will file a complaint with the Supreme Federal Court, "requesting the initiation of a police investigation for a possible crime against the democratic order." According to him, the minister "showed support for coup plotters."

>>> PT should maintain legal action against Augusto Nardes even after the minister backs down, says Paulo Pimenta.
