PL president Valdemar says occupation of the Chamber was 'legitimate'
Party leader states that demonstrations in the plenary were peaceful and sought to resume the amnesty agenda and reinforce the autonomy between branches of government.
247 - The president of the PL party, Valdemar Costa Neto, declared this Saturday (9) that he considers the occupation of the Chamber of Deputies plenary by parliamentarians from his party to be “peaceful and legitimate”. In a publication on the social network X, he defended the deputies mentioned in representations sent to the House's Ombudsman and stated that he trusts in “due legal process” and in the “competent instances” to judge the case. The information is from CNN Brazil.
Valdemar emphasized that the demonstrations aimed to "rescue the discussion and voting on the amnesty agenda" and "reinforce the defense of autonomy among the branches of government." According to him, the bill "reaffirms its commitment to democracy, to harmony among the branches of government, and to the full exercise of parliamentary prerogatives."
The decision to forward the complaints was taken by the Chamber's Board of Directors last Friday (8). The cases, which involve 14 deputies from parties such as PL, PP and Novo, were sent to the Parliamentary Ombudsman, under the responsibility of Diego Coronel (PSD-BA), who will indicate any punishments. Then, the Ethics and Parliamentary Decorum Council may analyze the processes.
Among the names mentioned are Bia Kicis (PL-DF), Carlos Jordy (PL-RJ), Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG), and Marco Feliciano (PL-SP). Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) also spoke out on X, stating that "millions of Brazilians may have their voices silenced" and criticizing what he called an attempt to prevent a "serious opposition" in the country.
In the statement released, Valdemar reaffirmed the party's support for the parliamentarians involved, saying that they "acted out of a sense of responsibility to represent millions of Brazilians who expect their voices to be heard."
