Pochmann: Temer consolidates Brazil's transition to a neocolonial system.

Economist Márcio Pochmann stated on Twitter that "the creation of Braskem in the 2000s propelled a new stage of Brazilian capitalism in relation to the passive and subordinate insertion of FHC. With Temer, the handover of large private and public companies to foreign capital consolidates the transition to the neocolonial system."

247 - Economist Márcio Pochmann stated on Monday (16) on Twitter that "the creation of Braskem in the 2000s boosted a new stage of Brazilian capitalism in relation to the passive and subordinate insertion of FHC. With Temer, the handover of large private and public companies to foreign capital consolidates the transition to the neocolonial system."

According to an agreement signed last week, Boeing will own 80% of the resulting company, while Embraer will retain the remaining 20%. The transaction values Embraer's entire commercial aviation operations at US$4,75 billion, with Boeing paying US$3,8 billion for the 80 percent stake, the companies said.

Embraer metalworkers' unions in the state of São Paulo left a meeting with company executives on Friday (13), demanding that the federal government veto the agreement. "It is evident that this agreement will exclusively benefit Boeing. Therefore, we will continue to pressure the federal government to veto the handover of Embraer," said Herbert Claros, director of the metalworkers' union of São José dos Campos, in a press release.

Pochmann had warned, this Sunday (15), about the possibility of more layoffs at the company. "End of Embraer as we know it. After laying off 4,2 employees five months ago (or 1/5 of the workers), the company opens another front of layoffs, seemingly preparing Embraer for Boeing, the new controller of the once aviation sovereignty project initiated by G. Vargas," he said.

On Monday (16), the scholar took the opportunity to criticize Temer's labor reform, as well as the agreement in the aviation sector. According to Pochamnn, the new proposal for workers approved in the current government, "makes the financial sustainability of social security unfeasible in the face of the growth of precarious occupations that pay an average income 1/3 lower and only 1/5 of them contribute to the social security system".
