247 - The Liberal Party (PL) is evaluating the possibility of bringing the amnesty bill for those involved in the coup attempts of January 8, 2023, to a direct vote in the Chamber of Deputies. However, the realization of this strategy depends on the support the party manages to gather in the coming days. In an interview with... CNN BrazilThe leader of the PL party in the Chamber of Deputies, Sóstenes Cavalcante (RJ), stated that the talks are "progressing," but stressed that there is no concrete date for when the topic will be discussed: "It won't be next week," he said, leaving the date open.

Currently, the bill is being processed by a special committee, which has not yet been formed, hindering the progress of the proposal. The new Speaker of the House, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), has reiterated that all bills will need a minimum majority consensus to be put to a vote, but so far he has not committed to the issue of amnesty.

Despite the uncertainty, the amnesty proposal was defined as a priority by the PL party for 2025. However, the lack of guarantees for its approval could result in a shift in focus, with other projects gaining prominence on the party's agenda. Among the alternatives is the proposal that alters the rules of the Clean Record Law, which, if approved in its current form, could reduce the period of ineligibility for Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
