Brazilian Federal Police say ABIN (Brazilian Intelligence Agency) obstructed investigation into influence peddling by Jair Renan, Bolsonaro's "04" son.

An ABIN (Brazilian Intelligence Agency) member was caught in the middle of the investigations and admitted that his mission was to prevent "risks to Bolsonaro's image" arising from the investigation against his son.

247 - In a report submitted in late 2021 to the 10th Federal Court of the Federal District, the Federal Police claims that the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin) interfered in the investigation into suspected influence peddling by Jair Renan Bolsonaro, the "04" son of Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

According to the newspaper The GlobeThe information came to light after an ABIN (Brazilian Intelligence Agency) member, caught during an operation, admitted in testimony that his mission was to gather information about the case to prevent "risks to the image" of the current occupant of the Planalto Palace. The intelligence agency is subordinate to the Institutional Security Office (GSI), commanded by the Bolsonaro-supporting General Augusto Heleno.

According to the report, the Abin operation took place on March 16 of last year, just four days after Jair Renan and his personal trainer Allan Lucena became targets of the investigation on suspicion of influence peddling.

>>> Bolsonaro and his family bought 51 properties, valued at R$ 26 million, paying in cash.

"At that time, Lucena realized he was being followed by a vehicle that entered the garage of his building. Annoyed, the personal trainer contacted the Military Police. When approached, the suspect identified himself as Luiz Felipe Barros Felix, a Federal Police agent assigned to the intelligence agency. The espionage episode was recorded in a police report. When summoned by the Federal Police to provide explanations, Felix stated that he worked at ABIN (Brazilian Intelligence Agency) directly under Alexandre Ramagem, then head of the agency and a trusted man of the president," the report highlights.

According to testimony given by the ABIN agent, the mission had been passed on to him by "an assistant to the head of the intelligence agency" to gather information about an electric car, valued at R$ 90, which had allegedly been donated to Jair Renan and his personal trainer by a businessman from Espírito Santo who had interests with the federal government. "The objective was to find out who was using the vehicle," Felix told the Federal Police. "The purpose of the investigation was to determine whether the information that could pose a risk to the president's image or physical integrity was true or not," he added.

According to the Federal Police, "the aforementioned investigation, logically, hampered the ongoing investigations since it changed the state of mind of the investigated party, and strangely, after widespread media coverage, it was also reported that Mr. Allan Lucena had 'returned' a vehicle supposedly delivered to Mr. Renan Bolsonaro." The Federal Police further stated that "there is no plausible justification" for the ABIN (Brazilian Intelligence Agency) investigation.

In a statement, ABIN (Brazilian Intelligence Agency) stated that "there is no record of the aforementioned action in the systems of the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (ABIN). Federal Police agent Luiz Felipe Barros Felix has not been part of ABIN's staff since March 29, 2021." Felix's dismissal, however, occurred 13 days after he was caught by Federal Police agents.
