247 - The Federal Police launched Operation Recupera this Wednesday (13) to dismantle a criminal organization suspected of fraud against the INSS (National Institute of Social Security). The group is believed to have caused losses of approximately R$ 3 million to public coffers. The government reported that the Attorney General's Office (AGU) obtained a court order to freeze R$ 2,8 billion in assets and property of associations, companies and individuals investigated for illegalities against retirees and pensioners.
The operation on Wednesday is executing six search and seizure warrants, as well as measures to freeze and seize assets. The court orders, issued by the Federal Court, are being carried out in Nilópolis, Itaboraí, Cavalcanti, and Méier, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, and in Florianópolis and Tubarão, in Santa Catarina. The Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF) and Caixa Econômica Federal are supporting the investigation.
Those involved in the scheme could face charges such as organized crime and wire fraud. Investigations are ongoing to identify other participants and recover more of the embezzled money.
