Brazilian Federal Police are considering requesting Bolsonaro's arrest if he does not return to Brazil by the end of April.

Carolina BrigidoAccording to UOL, investigators believe that "if he remains in the United States, it constitutes 'evasion of jurisdiction,' as stipulated in Article 302 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which justifies the pretrial detention of a person under investigation." 

Bolsonaro traveled to the United States on December 30th of last year, two days before the end of his term, and there is no date set for his return to Brazil. The former president is being investigated by the Supreme Federal Court (STF) on suspicion of involvement in the coup attempts of January 8th. 

The possibility of an arrest warrant has gained momentum in recent days, following the revelation that Bolsonaro attempted to illegally receive jewelry valued at R$16,5 million given by the Saudi monarchy and which should have been incorporated into the Union's assets. 

"According to investigators from the Federal Police, if the box containing men's jewelry is not presented publicly, addresses linked to Bolsonaro may be subject to search and seizure warrants," the report highlights.
