Brazilian Federal Police are still evaluating whether to indict Bolsonaro in the "parallel intelligence agency" case.

Investigation points to illegal espionage structure used to monitor opponents of the Bolsonaro government and links to a coup plot.

247 - The Federal Police have not yet decided whether Jair Bolsonaro (PL) will be indicted in the investigation into the so-called "parallel Abin," a clandestine espionage structure allegedly used to monitor opponents of the former president's government. This decision, according to the column by journalist [name missing], is pending. Gustavo UribeAccording to CNN Brazil, the meeting should take place after Carnival, when the corporation's leadership will assess the evidence gathered in the investigation so far.

According to the report, a preliminary draft of the investigation points to the indictment of Bolsonaro, his son Carlos Bolsonaro, and the former director of the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin), Alexandre Ramagem. The final document from the Federal Police should be sent to the Attorney General's Office (PGR) in March, with the expectation that the charges will be formalized in the first half of 2025.

According to the investigation, the clandestine espionage structure not only illegally monitored opponents but also worked to consolidate a coup d'état plan. The "parallel ABIN" allegedly spied on 22 people, including politicians, Supreme Federal Court (STF) ministers, journalists, and public servants. Among the targets of the illegal monitoring were eight parliamentarians, five civil servants, four STF ministers, four journalists, and one governor. The scheme operated mainly in 2021 and extended into 2022.

The Federal Police also points out that members of the Social Communication Secretariat (Secom) of the Bolsonaro government supplied the "parallel Abin" with fake profiles and disseminated false information against opponents of the Bolsonaro government.
