PCO calls for protests against the dictatorship across Brazil.

247 - The Workers' Cause Party (PCO), chaired by Rui Costa Pimenta, issued a statement calling on the population to participate in demonstrations against the celebration of the 1964 military coup ordered by President Jair Bolsonaro.

"It is important to emphasize that the celebrations of the military coup are a real threat to all the Brazilian people," the text says. "We will not remain silent in the face of the infamous act of the coup-plotting president and the generals nostalgic for the Military Dictatorship. The commemoration of the 64 coup is a mockery of those who were tortured and died fighting against the regime of terror against the people."

According to the party, "it is also important to remember that the imposition of a dictatorial regime in the country had already been advocated before by the main military leaders, such as General Hamilton Mourão, who defended the coup in the face of a possible situation of political chaos."

"Another who had also defended the dictatorship was General Villas-Boas, considered a democrat. He instructed the Army to study the Communist Party's attempted power grab in 1935 as a way to prepare the armed forces for a possible coup."

"The speeches of the military and members of the coup governments are veritable political propaganda from a regime of terror that caused a true massacre of the Brazilian people. Faced with the government crisis, they are preparing a new coup as a forceful solution against the entire population."

According to the caption, "left-wing activism and organizations fighting for the exploited must mobilize forcefully against this threat."

"The demonstrations on the official anniversary of the 64 coup will also serve to fight against today's coup plotters who rigged the election by eliminating Lula from the electoral process and are now threatening the people with a regime of exception in order to succeed in taking away the people's rights."
