Current Brazil Network - Representatives of the trade union centers will meet again this Tuesday (26), in São Paulo, to evaluate the demonstrations held last Friday and discuss the next steps of the mobilization against the "reform" of Social Security, which may include a general strike, as several speeches last week anticipated. "The event went beyond our expectations and shows that we are on the rise," says the president of CTB, Adilson Araújo.
For him, the so-called voice of the streets "can be an important answer to the ftake news", to the wave of lies that contributed to the election of Jair Bolsonaro to the Presidency of the Republic. "The people are beginning to get a sense of the extent of the evil (from the governmentAdilson believes that the labor unions, at this moment, need to have "political acumen, unity, and determination" to continue organizing resistance against measures that threaten rights, simultaneously with the attacks received against the union entities themselves.
The leader cites the labor "reform" laws (13.467) and unrestricted outsourcing (13.429), and Constitutional Amendment Proposal (PEC) 6, on Social Security, as examples of the attack on social rights. Furthermore, at the beginning of the month the government issued Provisional Measure (MP) 873, which changes rules on union funding. Several entities have obtained injunctions in court while awaiting the Supreme Federal Court's (STF) judgment on direct actions of unconstitutionality.
Unification
According to the president of the CTB, the current scenario demands a new approach from the labor unions, including the possibility of unifying the organizations. "I think the time is right for a new Conclat," says Adilson, referring to the conference that brought together, in the 1980s and 2010, practically all the political forces within the labor movement. "I have no doubt that the labor movement will have to move towards a profound restructuring."
The union federation led by Adilson is discussing a unification process with the CGTB, but the president notes that this process will take time. "We still have stages to overcome. The CTB has its own decision-making forums," he states, emphasizing the differences between this case and the process that led to the incorporation of the PPL into the PCdoB. "The CTB is a pluralistic federation," says the leader, highlighting that the organization includes union members also linked to the PSB, PDT, and even the PT. The focus, at this moment, is to join forces in defense of public social security.
