OAB responds to Gilmar's criticism of the Clean Record Law.

"This is not the behavior of a magistrate," declared the president of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB), Cláudio Lamachia; "The president of the TSE should recognize and support all initiatives that improve the electoral system," he stated, also criticizing "the language he used"; for Lamachia, "the Clean Slate Law is widely recognized by society as an advancement of democracy and the electoral system, preventing the candidacy of those with a tainted record."

247 - The president of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB), Cláudio Lamachia, refuted the criticism made by the president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), Gilmar Mendes, regarding the Clean Slate Law, which, according to him, was "created by drunks."

"The president of the TSE should recognize and support all initiatives that improve the electoral system. The language he used, in particular, is not consistent with the posture of a magistrate, especially a minister of the STF, when exercising his right to criticize, whether directed at society, the proponent of the law, the parliamentarians who approved the matter, or the head of the Executive branch who sanctioned it," said Lamachia, in a statement.

"The Clean Slate Law is widely recognized by society as an advancement of democracy and the electoral system, preventing the candidacy of those with a tainted record. This is so much the case that it was presented as a bill of popular initiative. All the entities that supported the Clean Slate Law, including the OAB (Brazilian Bar Association), were absolutely aware of the importance of this measure," added the president of the OAB.
