Among the participants in the initiative are the OAB (Brazilian Bar Association) and also groups linked to the left, which advocate for Bolsonaro's removal, such as the MST (Landless Rural Workers' Movement), the CUT (Unified Workers' Central) and the UNE (National Union of Students), reports the journalist. The hashtags #BrasilpelaDemocracia and #BrasilpelaVida will mark the launch of the campaign on social media, but there is still no decision to hold in-person events at this time because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The organizations state that they have decided to unite against attacks on the press, the Supreme Federal Court (STF), and Congress. The launch website also emphasizes that life in the country is threatened by the government's negligence in combating the Covid-19 pandemic.
On July 4th and 5th, these organizations will host the online event "Democracy Turnaround," featuring lectures and cultural activities.
Santa Cruz believes that the current situation requires civil society to overcome differences. He argues that all democrats in the country should unite.
