Brazil needs a national development plan to face global uncertainties, says José Dirceu.
"Without this, we will remain at the mercy of international instabilities and uncertainties," said the former minister.
247 - In an article published in the newspaper Folha de S. Paul On Thursday (30), former minister José Dirceu (PT) argued that President Lula (PT) should promote a national development project to overcome economic and geopolitical instabilities. Dirceu says that the creation of this project is necessary given the election of Donald Trump as president of the United States, which makes the scenario even more unpredictable.
“This scenario demands, more than ever, a national development project, anchored in the New Industry Brazil, the PAC (Growth Acceleration Program), and the energy and environmental transition—a theme I have been insisting on, especially given Brazil's need to seek technological and financial autonomy, the absence of which could cause the country to lose the capacity to build its own destiny. Without this, we will remain at the mercy of international instabilities and uncertainties, missing the boat on geopolitical and economic transformations,” wrote the former congressman.
Dirceu also states that Brazil needs to find a balance in the international arena given the polarization between China and the United States. “More than ever, Brazil needs to balance the rise of China and the Global South, which are the emerging force of the 21st century, with our historical relations with the US and Europe. For this balance to be successful, however, Brazil needs a strategy capable of preparing the country to face the consequences of the measures Trump will adopt and, at the same time, promoting a true social revolution capable of preserving our leadership in the integration of South America,” he argued.
Next, the former minister lists agendas that he considers priorities for the Lula government. He highlights fundamental economic issues, such as sustainable growth, reducing inequality, and promoting efficient agricultural policies, especially those focused on family farming. Furthermore, Dirceu emphasizes the importance of vocational education and addressing the climate emergency, focusing on prevention and response to natural disasters.
Another critical point raised by the former minister is the need for more effective political coordination, both in Congress and in society, so that the government can implement its policies. Dirceu emphasizes that the relationship between the government and the Workers' Party (PT) also needs to be improved, seeking a broader and more consolidated alliance.
Finally, Dirceu emphasizes that, despite the difficulties and political and economic adversities, President Lula has a history of overcoming crises and reorganizing his administration. He recalls that, during his first term, Lula faced the Mensalão scandal and, later, the 2008 global financial crisis, successfully reorienting economic policy. "Lula knows how to overcome crises and impasses," Dirceu states.
