247 - The mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), stated this Monday (24) that he will fully serve his four-year term at the head of the City Hall, ruling out the possibility of running for state governor in 2026, should Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos) — the current governor — decide to run for President of the Republic in the next election. “I will stay four years as mayor of São Paulo,” said the mayor during his participation in an event organized by the LIDE group, which brings together businesspeople and leaders from the private sector.

If Tarcísio runs for office, it would open up space in the state race. However, this scenario would leave Nunes dependent on negotiations with other more influential allies at the state level, such as Gilberto Kassab, the national president of the PSD.

Throughout his presentation at the event, Nunes also reinforced the importance of security and monitoring actions in the city, such as the Smart Sampa project, which uses cameras and facial recognition to reduce crime rates in the city of São Paulo.
