247 - During a demonstration held this Sunday (21) on Avenida Paulista, in São Paulo, the national president of the PT, Edinho Silva, was categorical in rejecting the proposal for amnesty for former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and others convicted for the acts of January 8.

In a speech delivered from atop a sound truck, he declared: "We don't want amnesty for coup plotters or murderers."Edinho, on the other hand, argued that forgiveness should be directed towards social causes. "We want amnesty for those who pay taxes they shouldn't. We want amnesty for workers with the end of the 6x1 work schedule. We want amnesty for the end of paid transportation; we want zero fares.", he stated, according to a report by Metropolis.

Protest gains momentum in São Paulo

The demonstration, called by unions, social movements, and left-wing parliamentarians, began at 14 PM and quickly filled all lanes of Paulista Avenue. The main objective of the mobilization was to protest against the so-called "Shielding Amendment" and against any attempt to grant amnesty for crimes related to the attempted coup.

Federal deputy Sâmia Bonfim (PSOL) highlighted the importance of the opposition demonstrating its capacity for mobilization. "The parliamentarians who voted for the PEC have now regretted it.", he stated in an interview with Metrópoles.

Politicians and artists unite in the act.

Among those present were congressmen Guilherme Boulos (PSOL) and Tabata Amaral (PSB). The demonstration also had strong participation from the artistic community, including Marina Lima, Otto, Leoni, João Suplicy, Jota.Pê, Curumin, Sophia Chablau, Luiz Thunderbird and the group Rap Plus Size.

Singer Jota.Pê harshly criticized the proposal being debated in Congress: "The 'Shielded Penalty Amendment' is one of the greatest absurdities in the country's recent history.".

Progress in Congress increases tension.

The demonstrations took place days after the Chamber of Deputies approved the urgency of the amnesty proposal by a vote of 311 to 163. Deputy Paulinho da Força (Solidariedade-SP) was appointed rapporteur by the Speaker of the House, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB).

Despite being presented in a version considered "light," the proposal has been seen by opponents as a maneuver to benefit those involved in crimes against democracy. The national mobilizations this Sunday seek precisely to show that civil society and sectors of culture remain vigilant and opposed to any measure in this regard.
