"This is nothing more than speculation. It's the right of the press, of journalists, of people in such circumstances to promote all kinds of speculation, but I want to say that it's nothing more than that, or just side comments that people might make here and there. But this speculation makes no sense," he declared.
Rebelo is always mentioned as a name that enjoys the sympathy of the military.
Former minister Aloizio Mercadante (PT), who holds a prominent role in Lula's transition team, has already stated that the new administration's Minister of Defense will be a civilian.
