247 - A group of women whose partners are inmates protested this Wednesday, the 18th, in front of the Alcaçuz penitentiary, in Greater Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, burning sofas and pieces of wood, and blocking the street leading to the prison.

They were dispersed by military police officers who came out of the prison and began throwing rubber bullets and pepper spray at the women, whose faces were covered. One of them, who was pregnant, became ill and fainted.

According to a report by the UOL portal, the reason for the protest was that the husbands, "members of the Sindicato do Crime faction, wanted the prisoners linked to the PCC to leave the penitentiary. According to them, with the departure of 200 prisoners, those who remain will be in the minority and weakened amidst the war between the groups."

A prison riot last Saturday, the 14th, left 26 inmates dead after a fight between factions. The prison is now under the control of the prisoners.
