247 Breaking with protocol, President Dilma Rousseff began her speech this morning, during a ceremony in São Julião, Piauí, by initially greeting and thanking the workers of the Piaus Water Supply System, whose construction site the president visited. During her speech, Dilma emphasized that changing living conditions in the Northeast is "more than an economic issue, it's a matter of humanity." The president cited the "Drought Relief Fund," "Crop Insurance," and financing lines provided by the federal government as essential to minimizing the effects of the drought in the region.

The president declared that she will continue her partnership with the governor of Piauí, Wilson Martins (PSB), and that she will give "all her effort" to ensure that the state's projects are implemented and provide jobs and income for the state. "Alone we go only so far, when we are together we go much further. I want to go much further here in Piauí," said the president, alongside ministers and other authorities, as well as mayors from the region, such as the mayor of the city itself, José Neci, from the PT party.

Dilma reminded everyone that, although infrastructure projects are very important for the country, education is also essential for development, highlighting programs such as "Literacy at the Right Age" and "Science Without Borders." She concluded her speech by saying that the greatest wealth of the country, however, is the Brazilian people and that Brazil is on the right track. "The men and women of this country have the tenacity to overcome difficulties," she stated. "The right path for Brazil is the right path for each one of you."

Tour in the Northeast

This was Dilma's first visit to Piauí as president. After the event at the water pipeline in the morning, she will inaugurate a housing complex in the state capital, Teresina, part of the "Minha Casa, Minha Vida" (My House, My Life) program. The "Bem Viver" complex will consist of 400 new apartments, representing an investment of R$ 16,5 million from Caixa Econômica Federal. Following her visit to Piauí, the president is expected to visit Sergipe, Paraíba, and Pernambuco in the coming weeks.
