Movements in defense of democracy are expanding with new members.
The democratic struggle against Jair Bolsonaro's far-right government is expanding with new supporters joining the manifestos launched in recent days. Former Supreme Court justices, intellectuals, artists, and workers are swelling the ranks of those protesting against the anti-democratic setbacks in the country.
247 - With a non-partisan character, initiatives to defend democracy and oppose Jair Bolsonaro's threats and coup maneuvers are multiplying. Little by little, a climate is being created in the country that has been compared to that of the Diretas Já movement (1984).
That movement formed a broad unity for democracy, which ultimately resulted, a year later, in the end of the military dictatorship.
The main movements expressing the feeling of democratic unity at the moment are the Estamos Juntos Movement —which was launched on Saturday (30) and reached the mark of 224 thousand signatures this Monday—, the Somos 70% campaign —created from the previous initiative and viralized on social networks— and Basta! —which brings together lawyers and jurists, informs the FSP.
