247 - Vice President General Hamilton Mourão denied that he is seeking a rapprochement between the Armed Forces and former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). “Those who think I am opening the doors of the barracks to Lula and the PT are unaware of my history and the role of the Armed Forces, especially the Brazilian Army. I remain firm in stating that the PT government was catastrophic for Brazil and that a return to power will bring setbacks,” Mourão posted on his Twitter account, attempting to bring anti-PT sentiment back into the spotlight. 

The post was made following the repercussions of a statement he made on the 9th of this month to journalist Igor Gadelha's column on the Metrópoles website. On that occasion, He stated that it was "completely pointless." The argument that the Armed Forces would not accept a possible victory for Lula in the presidential elections in October. "The Armed Forces did not interfere in any electoral process. We were governed by the left, by the PT, for 12 or 13 years without any problem," he said. 

Disagreements between Mourão and Bolsonaro have been accumulating throughout the term. In one of the most recent episodes, the general...
