247 - Judge Sérgio Moro of Operation Lava Jato rejected on Tuesday (21) a request from the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF) to decree the temporary arrest and only extended the temporary arrest of Marice Corrêa de Lima, sister-in-law of former PT treasurer João Vaccari Neto, for another five days. Marice is being held in the Federal Police jail in Curitiba. She surrendered to the police last Friday.

Moro considered that the extension is less "burdensome" than the request for preventive detention made by the prosecution and that it is "justified in light of the principle of proportionality."

According to the investigations, she is suspected of being a recipient of money from the corruption scheme. She allegedly acquired an apartment for R$ 200 and sold it to the company OAS, also suspected of participating in the scheme to divert money from Petrobras, for R$ 400. The same property was allegedly sold by the construction company for a lower price.

In testimony to the Federal Police on Monday, the sister-in-law of the former treasurer of the PT (Workers' Party) said that in 2011 she received R$ 200 from the party as "moral damages" for the involvement of her name in the mensalão (monthly allowance) scandal.
