Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), determined this Thursday (30) the suspension of the criminal action that is being processed in the Court against federal deputy Gustavo Gayer (PL-GO).

Gayer is accused of the crimes of slander, defamation, and libel for having uttered insults against Senator Vanderlan Cardoso (PSD-GO) on social media in 2023.

Moraes complied with the decision of the Chamber of Deputies., which, on October 15, approved the suspension of the proceedings against Gayer by a vote of 268 to 167.

"I hereby order the immediate application of Resolution No. 30 of 2025 from the Chamber of Deputies, and declare the suspension of this criminal action in relation to federal deputy Gustavo Gayer," the minister ruled.

The Federal Constitution stipulates that the House of Representatives must be informed about the initiation of proceedings and decide, within 45 days, whether to agree to proceed or suspend the action while the representative or senator remains in office.
