247 - Jair Bolsonaro (PL) was the target of an operation by the Federal Police (PF) this Friday (18), authorized by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Supreme Federal Court (STF). According to the court decision, Bolsonaro must comply with nightly house arrest, wear an electronic ankle bracelet and is prohibited from accessing social networks.
The precautionary measures were determined within the scope of Petition No. 14129 and include, in addition to electronic monitoring, a prohibition on any contact with ambassadors, foreign diplomats, and other defendants or individuals under investigation by the Supreme Court. Bolsonaro will also be prohibited from visiting embassies.
The decision is yet another development in the investigations conducted by the Federal Police involving the former president. The Federal Police confirmed the execution of two search and seizure warrants in Brasília — one at Bolsonaro's residence and the other at the headquarters of the Liberal Party. In an official statement, the corporation informed: “the Federal Police executed, this Friday (July 18), in Brasília, two search and seizure warrants, in addition to precautionary measures other than imprisonment, in compliance with the decision of the Supreme Federal Court, within the scope of PET No. 14129”.
Risk of escape and 24-hour surveillance. The implementation of these measures aims to prevent concrete risks of evasion. Behind the scenes at the Court, the possibility of Bolsonaro attempting to obtain political asylum from the President of the United States, Donald Trump, was considered a real threat. Therefore, the use of the electronic ankle bracelet and full monitoring were imposed to guarantee the integrity of the investigations and prevent obstruction of justice.
The nightly curfew must be observed daily between 7 pm and 19 am. Bolsonaro is also prohibited from accessing social media.
