247 - Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes has ordered the Attorney General's Office to respond within 5 days to a request from the defense of former President Jair Bolsonaro, who is currently in prison, to reduce his sentence.

"The Attorney General's Office is hereby given notice to submit its opinion within 5 (five) days. Publish. Brasília, January 9, 2026," says Moraes's order.

Earlier, Bolsonaro's defense requested that the former president be authorized to engage in reading activities "with the objective of developing educational and cultural activities compatible with the resocialization purpose of the sentence." The request is based on rules regulated by the National Council of Justice (CNJ) and seeks a reduction in sentence.

The order also refers to a request for the installation of a "Smart TV" and the carrying out of an institutional inspection of the premises of the Federal Police Headquarters in Brasília-DF, where Bolsonaro is imprisoned. Bolsonaro was sentenced to more than 27 years in prison in the case of the coup plot following the 2022 elections.
