Brazil Agency - Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), denied this Thursday (27), in Brasília, a new request from the defense of former president Jair Bolsonaro to have 83 days to present a defense in the complaint about the coup plot.

The decision was prompted by the request made to the minister on Monday (24). The lawyers appealed Moraes' first decision, which also denied the extension of the legal defense period from 15 to 83 days.

The lawyers stated that they need full access to the evidence obtained by the Federal Police (PF) and want to comment only after the defense of Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, Bolsonaro's former aide and informant in the investigations, has presented its arguments.

According to the defense, the 83-day deadline is to compensate for the same period that the case remained at the Attorney General's Office (PGR) for the preparation of the indictment.

In the decision issued today, Moraes reiterated that Bolsonaro's defense had access to the evidence contained in the indictment.

"Therefore, there is no doubt that Jair Messias Bolsonaro's defense had full access to the case files and the system, through the media provided by the Judicial Secretariat, making it possible to analyze all the elements collected from the cell phone devices," stated the Supreme Court Justice.

According to the Supreme Federal Court (STF), the deadline for the former president's lawyers to submit their defense ends on March 6th. The 15-day period began on February 19th.
