Brazil Agency - Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes denied on Tuesday (18) a request to seize the passport of federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), son of former president Jair Bolsonaro. The minister's decision was made after the Attorney General's Office (PGR) issued an opinion against the measure.

Moraes evaluated a criminal complaint filed by the PT and by Congressman Lindbergh Farias (PT-RJ).

In the lawsuit, filed last month with the Supreme Court, the party and the congressman alleged that Eduardo Bolsonaro has been traveling to the United States to coordinate attacks with US lawmakers against Minister Alexandre de Moraes, the rapporteur for the investigations into the coup plot. According to the petition, Bolsonaro's son is committing treason by intimidating the minister and the Brazilian judiciary.

In the Supreme Federal Court (STF), the case was assigned to Alexandre de Moraes, who requested an opinion from the Attorney General's Office (PGR) before deciding the matter.

Moraes understood that the final decision on the case rested with the Attorney General's Office and accepted the request for dismissal.

"In light of the foregoing, I accept the opinion of the Attorney General's Office, deny the requests for the imposition of precautionary measures, and order the dismissal of this investigation," Moraes ruled.

Clearance

Earlier, Eduardo Bolsonaro announced that he will be taking a leave of absence from his position as a federal deputy to live in the United States. The move was made after the congressman failed to secure the leadership of the Foreign Relations Committee in the Chamber of Deputies.
