Do Conjur - Former congressman Roberto Jefferson has been authorized to leave the prison where he is being held to undergo medical examinations at the Samaritano Hospital in Rio de Janeiro. authorization was given this Tuesday (18) by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Supreme Federal Court, responsible for the investigation in which the former president of the PTB is being investigated for participation in anti-democratic acts.
According to a ruling on the petition submitted by Jefferson's lawyers, the minister states that "the prisoner must be accompanied by an escort and return to the prison facility after undergoing the necessary examinations, being allowed contact only with the medical and nursing staff."
The judge also ordered the immediate preparation of a medical report by the State Secretariat of Penitentiary Administration of the State of Rio de Janeiro "indicating whether or not the prison hospital is capable of treating the inmate."
The former congressman had his preventive detention ordered after posting several videos on his social media attacking the powers of the Republic and the Democratic Rule of Law, on many occasions carrying firearms, practicing target shooting, and teaching people how to assault public officials. He is being held at the Gericinó Penitentiary Complex (Bangu 8).
On September 4th of last year, Alexandre de Moraes, given Jefferson's poor health, authorized his transfer to the Samaritano Hospital, under electronic monitoring. After receiving information from the hospital that Jefferson's medical condition had improved and that he was fit to be discharged, the minister ordered, on October 13th, that the politician return to prison.
