Moraes grants request and dismisses José Múcio's testimony as a witness for Kid Preto.
The Minister of Defense claimed ignorance of the facts related to the investigation into the operational core of the coup plot.
247 - Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes authorized on Tuesday (15) the dismissal of Defense Minister José Múcio Monteiro from testifying as a witness in one of the criminal proceedings investigating the attempted coup d'état after the 2022 elections. The information is from g1.
Múcio had been listed as a defense witness for Rafael Martins de Oliveira, known as "Kid Preto," one of the defendants in what is called "Group 3" of the Attorney General's Office (PGR) indictment. This group is mostly made up of military personnel and is accused of providing logistical and operational support to the alleged coup scheme.
Múcio's testimony was scheduled for July 22nd at 9:00 AM, but it was canceled after the minister submitted a request to the Court through the Attorney General's Office (AGU). According to the filed document, the Minister of Defense "is unaware of the facts under consideration in this criminal case."
According to the AGU's statement, "the applicant states that he is unaware of the facts under consideration in this criminal case, and therefore requests that his testimony as a witness be denied."
Moraes' decision, as rapporteur for the cases related to the coup attempts of January 8th and the previous coordination, grants the request for dismissal and ends José Múcio's participation in this specific case.
The members of Group 3, to which Rafael Martins belongs, are identified as being responsible for planning and executing the logistics of actions aimed at reversing the results of the 2022 elections, based on unconstitutional measures.
