José Higídio, Conjur - Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Supreme Federal Court, determined this Friday (3) the filing of an autonomous and confidential petition for investigation of Senator Marcos do Val (Podemos-ES) for reports of alleged coup proposals received from former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and former federal deputy Daniel Silveira.

The investigation will seek to determine if the congressman committed the crimes of perjury, false accusation, and coercion during legal proceedings. According to Alexandre, Do Val has already presented four versions of the events.

To better clarify the matter, the minister had ordered Veja magazine and the CNN and GloboNews networks to send the Supreme Court recordings of all interviews given by the senator that have already been published.

Later, Alexandre issued a new order clarifying that the Communications Department would contact the media outlets directly, without the need to send official letters.

Finally, Meta, the company that owns Instagram, will have to forward the full transcript of a live broadcast made by Do Val this Thursday (2).

History

The senator testified to the Federal Police after being instructed to do so by Alexandre himself. During the hearing, he released the aforementioned fourth version of events, contradicting his own statements to the press.

Throughout Thursday, the congressman's accounts regarding Bolsonaro's active or passive role in the coup plot changed several times. Initially, Do Val said that the former president had agreed with the idea. Later, he stated that Bolsonaro did not express his opinion, but only listened to the plan formulated by Silveira.

The idea behind the coup was that the senator would record a conversation with Alexandre and "try to get him to confess that he was acting without necessarily observing the Constitution." Based on this, Bolsonaro and his allies could supposedly claim that the election held in October was fraudulent, prevent the inauguration of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), and arrest the magistrate.

This Friday, the Supreme Court Justice said that the senator had already confided the plan to him unofficially in December. "The brilliant idea they had was to bug the senator, (...) who has no intimacy with me," Alexandre said ironically.
