Minister orders Federal Police to investigate alleged purchase of courts by JBS.

Brazilian Justice Minister Torquato Jardim ordered the Federal Police to conduct an investigation into allegations that JBS attempted to bribe and influence judicial decisions. Earlier, Supreme Court Justice Gilmar Mendes had already requested that Jardim order investigations into conversations and documents exchanged between lawyer Renata Gerusa Prado Araújo and several other individuals, including the legal director and whistleblower of the J&F group, Francisco Carlos de Assis, in which he was mentioned, as well as three ministers of the Superior Court of Justice.

247 - The Minister of Justice, Torquato Jardim, ordered the Federal Police to conduct an investigation into allegations that JBS attempted to bribe and influence decisions of the Judiciary.

Earlier, Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice Gilmar Mendes had already requested that Torquato order the opening of investigations into conversations and documents exchanged between lawyer Renata Gerusa Prado Araújo and several other people, including the legal director and whistleblower of the J&F group, Francisco Carlos de Assis. The conversations mention Superior Court of Justice Justices Mauro Campbell, Napoleão Maia, and João Otávio Noronha, as well as Gilmar himself.

The allegations were published by Veja magazine. The recordings were delivered to the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF) by Pedro Bettim Jacob, the lawyer's ex-husband. In the recordings, she and Francisco discuss influence peddling and cash payments to three ministers of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ).
