Fernando Porfírio _247 - The São Paulo Public Prosecutor's Office filed charges with the court this Thursday (12) against four suspects involved in the death of 3-year-old Grazielly Lames, who was run over by a jet ski on February 18 in Bertioga (southern coast of São Paulo). They are accused of manslaughter (without intent to kill).

The accused are: José Augusto Cardoso (the teenager's godfather and owner of the jet ski), the caretaker Erivaldo Francisco (who took the equipment to sea), and the mechanics Thiago Veloso Lins and Aílton Bispo de Oliveira (because they were allegedly negligent in allowing a part of the equipment to rust).

The four were also charged with negligent bodily harm for the injuries caused to Andreia dos Santos Silva. In the case of the caretaker and the godfather of the teenager who was driving the vehicle, the Prosecutor's Office requested an increase in the sentence by one-third because they did not attempt to mitigate the consequences of their actions and did not provide assistance to the victims.

An increase in the sentence was also requested for the mechanics, who lubricated the jet ski days before the accident, attesting that the equipment was in perfect working order and could be used. The penalty for manslaughter ranges from one to three years of imprisonment, and the penalty for negligent bodily injury ranges from two months to one year of imprisonment.

The teenager who was driving the jet ski will be held accountable for the infraction. The Juvenile Court judge will determine if he should undergo a socio-educational measure.

The accident happened on Carnival Saturday. A key witness said the boy accelerated the jet ski "suddenly, violently, and completely." The vehicle reportedly reared up, bounced on the water, and continued at high speed until it hit the child. The law prohibits minors under 18 from driving jet skis.

The case was transferred from the Bertioga Police Station to the Regional Police Station in early March "due to its complexity and repercussions," according to the police. At the time, however, information from TV Globo indicated that the investigation had been concluded and that no one had been indicted.
