247 - After being harshly criticized by several experts, the National Security Plan hastily announced by Michel Temer's government last week, following the deaths of nearly 100 inmates in prisons in Manaus (AM) and Boa Vista (RR), has become a target for the military, who say they are "literally" excluded from the document.
The National Federation of State Military Officers (FENEME), which represents 43 entities of the category in the country, released a manifesto expressing "the deepest disappointment and disapproval with the National Public Security Plan, launched last week by the Minister of Justice, Alexandre de Moraes".
The document highlights that the Temer government's plan "literally ignored, in its 62 pages, the existence of the Military Police, an institution more than a century old, entrusted by the Federal Constitution with visible policing and the preservation of public order, an activity and mission that accounts for about 70% of the entire force."
For the military, the presented plan "will tend to further inflate the already chaotic Brazilian prison system." Representatives of the Military Police say they hope that Michel Temer, with his experience in public security and knowledge of the importance of the corporation, will intervene so that the plan does not become "a mere strategy for distributing federal resources."
