247 - Military personnel identified as authors of an apocryphal letter aimed at pressuring Armed Forces commanders to join a coup d'état to keep Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in power did not appear at the hearing of the criminal case being processed at the Supreme Federal Court (STF) this Tuesday (22). The information is from the newspaper The Globe.

Listed as defense witnesses in the case investigating the so-called coup plot, military officers Alexandre Castilho Bitencourt da Silva, Anderson Lima de Moura, and Carlos Giovani Delevati Pasini were summoned to testify, but they neither justified their absence nor presented a formal waiver to the Supreme Federal Court.

They were nominated by the lawyers of the defendants Fabrício Moreira de Bastos and Ronald Ferreira de Araújo Júnior, members of the so-called "core three" of the organization denounced by the Attorney General's Office (PGR). According to the prosecution, this group was made up of Army officers and a Federal Police agent, and was allegedly responsible for carrying out tactical actions of the so-called Green and Yellow Dagger plan, which included the kidnapping and even the assassination of authorities, including Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, then President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and his vice-president, Geraldo Alckmin.

During the hearing, Moreira de Bastos' defense argued that the witnesses were not obligated to appear. However, auxiliary judge Luciana Sorrentino reiterated that it is the defense's responsibility to ensure the witnesses' presence, reaffirming a previous decision by the case's rapporteur, Minister Alexandre de Moraes.
