The National Network of Popular Doctors publicly expresses its sorrow for the passing of former First Lady Marisa Letícia today and extends its condolences to the Lula da Silva family.
Our comrade Marisa lent her strength and determination to building a more just and inclusive Brazil, helping to restore dignity to the majority of its people, alleviating poverty and removing Brazil from the hunger map.
It is with sadness that we experience this pathological atmosphere in Brazilian society, in which we witness fascist manifestations even in moments of grief like these.
Empathy and solidarity are principles that will never be lacking in doctors committed to the people.
We also commend the family's courage and sensitivity in choosing to donate their organs for organ donation and transplantation, an activity carried out exemplarily by our Unified Health System, and which will certainly save lives.
This moment demands closeness and unrestricted respect for the dignity of human life. Thus, in Marisa, we will have yet another fighter who, leaving behind the material reality of history, earns unforgettable pages in memory and as an example.
