247 - Brazilian jurist Marcelo Uchôa questioned Justice Luiz Fux's vote regarding the Supreme Federal Court's (STF) jurisdiction to judge the case involving the attempted coup d'état, highlighting the symbolic impact this decision could have on the political narratives of the far-right. In a social media post, Uchôa warned that, although Fux's vote may not alter the final outcome of the trial, it will carry significant weight in supporting the theories of persecution and the alleged "dictatorship" promoted by far-right groups.

"Let's not fool ourselves. Minister Fux's vote may not change anything in the outcome of the trial, but it will have a very strong symbolic weight in supporting the theories of persecution and the existence of a dictatorship propagated by the far-right," wrote Uchôa. The jurist argued that the dissemination of Fux's vote could be amplified and replicated exhaustively by those who already defend a narrative of victimization and political oppression, especially on social media.

Uchôa also warned of the potential effect of the decision on public perception, especially at such a delicate moment for Brazilian politics, when ideological divisions are at their most intense. "There will be endless dissemination and rebuttal. There are sides to it," he stated, suggesting that Fux's vote could be used to fuel the idea of alleged political persecution against figures on the right.
